Happy new year. Another week of pausing every time I write the date. the 202 feels familiar, but the 4? Needs some getting used to. I still remember my Elementary teacher explaining the year change to us in 3rd grade.
I don't think I've ever succeeded in a New Year's Resolution™, but the general consensus is that they're not the best approach (if James Clear taught me anything, it's that goals suck). With that in mind, and some inspiration, I've decided my theme for 2024 will be ✨ creation ✨.
You see, it's rigged in my favor. With this very blog post, I have created, and therefore have fulfilled my 2024 theme. That's not the point though, and in truth, anyone reading this will never see what I create this year. It'll be all tucked away, bundled up in rubber bands and paper clips, taking up the lost space in the square footage of my bedroom, or college dorm, but created nonetheless. A good amount will be seen, though, either here or elsewhere, we'll see.
Last year I set up this blog, an exercise on self-hosting something actually exposed to the world-wide-web. The original intention was for it to federate, but I never was able to set up an SSL, not to mention nginx, but it works, and I'm happy.
Here are some things I've enjoyed since my last post.
PromptBrush - The very first non-AI generative model. A witty slap-back on all this so called "AI-art," and really fun to look through. I think it really sums up the difference of what a human can bring to visual form that a machine could never do: clever, humorous, unique interpretation. AI will always follow the patterns before it, there is no innovation.
SOUP CONTENT! I made this Olive Garden Chicken Gnocchi Soup, and ooooooooh it was good. Same note, some New Yorker's have come together to make the heavenly erpetual stew. I'd give anything to try it.
Also, that one time a tomato got lost on the ISS. This is soup related because I'm having tomato soup tonight (oh yeah).
ALSO...Barilla, the pasta manufacturer, has a Spotify account.
Check out this beautiful ink. I want to say I need it, but I barely use my fountain pen as it is, mostly because I feel like I'm using it wrong every time I pick it up. If anyone knows how to properly use one, could you please help?
Peace and love, wear a scarf and a glove,
Willa
